Prehabilitation before cancer surgery in older adults: who benefits?

Prof. Luigi Marano is the President of the European Federation – International Society for Digestive Surgery (EFISDS). He serves as Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Director of the International Center for Medical Education (ICME), and Professor of Surgery at the Academy of Applied Medical and Social Sciences (AMiSNS) in Elbląg, Poland. He also supervises the Robotic and Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgical Program at the Department of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology, “Saint Wojciech” Hospital, Nicolaus Copernicus Health Center, Gdańsk, Poland. He obtained his specialization in General Surgery at the University of Naples, Italy, graduating with full marks and honors. He subsequently completed a second-level Master’s degree in Oncological Digestive Surgery at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome and was later appointed Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Siena, Italy. His academic activity is focused on esophago-gastric and oncological surgery, with a strong emphasis on innovation, minimally invasive techniques, and perioperative management. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, contributing to the advancement of surgical science at an international level. Prof. Marano is actively involved in surgical education and research networks. He is a member of the Education and Training Committee (Upper GI Section) of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) and has previously served as National Coordinator of the Young Italian Society of Oncological Surgery (YSICO).
